Some of my friends asked could we make some hearts for the vigil for Fiona Warzywoda which was being held in Sunshine.
So we dived into the fray.
I made plaster moulds of crochet as the first callout for the vigil had been for crocheted hearts.
the next day, sunday, we had a workshop to make the ceramic hearts using actual crochet and the moulds.
Then I had to work out how to get them fired before tuesday . . . ..
the hearts were baked sunday night in an oven to dry them out and then taken to the kiln the next morning at the Sunsbury Boilerhouse Community arts centre, to be fired.
hot out of the oven tuesday arvo, they arrived at the vigil.
Over two hundred hearts we written on with personal messages from the people at the vigil.
The messages express grief for Fiona and also other family and friends who have been affected by violence.
The hearts were all written on and hung within 2 hours.
Well done to:
the two people who expressed their wishes to do something about this, requesting that I get a project organised.
the sixteen people who came to the workshop and made the hearts
and the others who assisted on the night to help people to write on them and hang them.
It became something that I had not imagined.
An artwork made by over 200 people
something that arose from community need
and expressed the thoughts of the community.
